WOMAN GIVES BIRTH FOR SECOND TIME ON THE WAY TO THE HOSPITAL
For a second time, a Bethel, Ohio, woman has given birth to a baby on the drive to the hospital. Christina Schuler's 8-pound, 11-ounce son was born Tuesday in the front seat of the family's pickup truck. Schuler says her labor was even shorter than it was in December 2006, when she gave birth to her son, Ethan, in a car. The father, Nathan Schuler, says if the couple has any more children, they'll have to leave for the hospital a lot earlier.
CORN POPPING ON THE STALK
A Hardin County, Kentucky, farmer says that it's so hot, some ears among his feed corn rows pop on the stalk. County Extension agent Doug Shepherd said the outer coat of a kernel can explode from heat after the ears are pollinated. Temperatures in corn fields can be 10 degrees higher than in the surrounding area as the plants are producing energy.
* How hot is it?
- All the corn on the stalks started popping and flying through the air. The cows thought it was snowing and they froze to death.
- Farmers are feeding their chickens crushed ice to keep them from laying hard boiled eggs.
- The cows are giving evaporated milk.
- You have to water the flowers with Gatorade.
- I saw a bee take its yellow jacket off.
- Even the sun was looking for some shade.
- The workers at the chicken place were jumping in the fry vat just to cool off.
TRAPPED CHILEAN MINER HAS WIFE, MISTRESS
Down in Chile, where the miners are trapped deep below the ground awaiting rescue, miner Yonni Barrios' wife was shocked to hear another woman shouting her husband's name at a candlelight vigil held to support the 33 men. The two women compared notes and figured out that they both had been shafted. Despite feeling "horrified" about her husband's cheating ways, Marta Salinas, 56, has told friends she still plans to welcome Barrios, 50, back with open arms once he's freed. "Barrios is my husband. He loves me and I am his devoted wife," she said. But the mistress, Susana Valenzuela, who's been his mistress for five years, says, "We are in love. I'll wait for him." Officials said the miners aren't likely to be rescued before Christmas.
SPIDER CHASE LEADS TO EXPLOSION
In Clacton-on-Sea, England, Christopher Robinson was chasing a spider in the bathroom when it crawled behind the toilet. The 28-year-old grabbed an aerosol can of deodorant and sprayed it toward the spider. Since the light in the bathroom was out, he used his lighter to get a better look. The resulting explosion blew him back into his hallway. The fireball scorched the bathroom and left Robinson with superficial burns to his arms, legs and face. Mr. Robinson said: "Luckily, I was wearing my boxer shorts so I did not get burned in a more sensitive area." |
